Katie Raby and Debbie Wooten

Dr. Debbie Wooten is Professor Emerita of Education at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville where she taught for 19 years. Prior to this, she taught primarily elementary school in both inner city New York and Long Island for over 20 years. As an army brat, she was raised around the world, finally landing in Biloxi, Mississippi. However, a chunk of her heart will always remain

in NYC where she developed her teaching career, raised her two kids with her husband, and served faithfully at her “forever” home church, The Brooklyn Tabernacle. Debbie is a life-long- learner and loves walking, reading, and spending time with her family and dog.

Katie Raby was born and raised in New York City and knew she wanted to be an educator at an early age. She attended The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, receiving undergraduate degrees in English Literature and Latin, and National-Louis University in Chicago, IL, receiving a Masters in Secondary Teaching with a middle school endorsement. Katie taught high school English for 10 years in both public and private Christian schools. In addition to teaching, Katie has been a local realtor since 2017. When she’s not teaching or house hunting, Katie loves

serving at her church and spending time at home with her husband, son, and dog.

Though Debbie and Katie have worked as a mother/daughter duo in education in various presentations, publications, and conferences, they have never co-taught. They are very excited for this 2025-26 school year!
